Google’s $32bn Wiz bid puts Europe’s competition resolve to the test

The Balanced Economy Project, together with the Open Markets Institute, SOMO and Rebalance Now, has explored how Google’s proposed $32bn acquisition of cloud-security firm Wiz may reshape Europe’s cloud market, warning that the deal could give Google unprecedented access to rival cloud environments, the ability to consolidate sensitive operational data within a single platform, and further concentrate control over critical digital infrastructure.

It sets out the stakes for competition, sovereignty and cybersecurity in Europe. And with the European Commission now reviewing the deal, it calls for the EU to be prepared to open an in-depth investigation and, if necessary, block the merger to protect competition and the resilience of cloud infrastructure.
