Balanced Economy Project to Join Scotland’s Economics Festival 2026

The Balanced Economy Project will take part in Scotland’s Economics Festival, set to run from 19–21 March 2026 in Leith, Edinburgh. The festival is a major public event designed to challenge conventional economic thinking and explore bold ideas for a fairer future.

As part of the programme, the Balanced Economy Project will host a session titled “Constraining Corporate Power” on 21 March. This discussion will examine why large corporations have become so dominant, the impact on democracy and inequality, and practical steps to rebalance the system through an anti-monopoly agenda.

The festival brings together economists, campaigners, and citizens to ask big questions about how the economy can serve people, place, and planet. For the Balanced Economy Project, participation underscores its mission to tackle excessive corporate power and build a genuinely democratic economy.

Claire Godfrey, Executive Director of the Balanced Economy Project says: ""We’re excited to join Scotland’s Economics Festival because it’s about reimagining the economy for the public good. Tackling monopoly power isn’t a niche issue – it’s central to creating democratic economy that works for everyone."

The event is being supported by progressive organisations from across the UK, including the David Graeber Institute, Future Economy Scotland, WEAll Scotland, and the Balanced Economy Project.
