Break Up Big Tech: Civil Society Declaration
BEP is a signatory to the Break Up Big Tech: civil society declaration, along with 35 other civil society organisations. It calls on the European Commission to put a stop to Google’s abuse of its advertising monopoly and force Google to sell off parts of its online advertising business. The European Commission has a once in a generation opportunity to get to the core problem of the power that Google wields over democratic society and political discourse by dismantling its stranglehold over the digital world. The US courts have already ruled the Google’s advertising monopoly is illegal. A pincer movement by the US courts and the European Commission to break up this tech monopoly will help to restore a fairer and freer internet.
The Declaration is accompanied by a petition signed by more than 116,000 people across Europe handed over to the European Commission calling on it to stand up to Big Tech and break up Google.
